MOSCOW, August 12 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Foreign Ministry's Ambassador-at-Large, Igor Savolsky, called economic blockade measures taken by Chisinau in regard to Transdniestria "unacceptable", as they "touch upon the interests of our compatriots." He said this at a RIA Novosti press conference.

Economic blockade of Transdniestria, in his opinion, is not an acceptable way to unite Moldova.

In the diplomat's opinion, military resolution of conflicts on the post-Soviet space cannot be allowed.

Prior to introduction of sanctions, Transdniestrian enterprises were freely involved in foreign economic activity, paid customs duties to the budget of the region's administration when they were registered in Moldovan bodies.

Now official Chisinau demands that Transdniestrian enterprises transfer customs duties and taxes to Moldova's budget.

"The conflict must be resolved with observation of fundamental principles of international law and with the use of political dialogue," Mr. Savolsky is sure.

Speaking about the resolution of the "school problem," the diplomat said: "We confirmed to Chisinau and Tiraspol that the Russian side will not press either side."

Mr. Savolsky said that the Russian delegation, which returned from Chisinau on Wednesday, managed to talk the Transdniestrian side into displaying flexibility in the humanitarian issue.

The diplomat said that they did not manage to achieve success in full, though.

"The main thing is that the sides agreed to sit down to the negotiating table," Mr. Savolsky said.

Speaking about the aggravation of the situation in South Ossetia, Mr. Savolsky recalled that on Thursday the Russian Foreign Ministry called to hold an extraordinary session in the framework of the Joint Control Commission on the settlement of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict.

He noted that Russia called on all parties, first of all the Georgian one, to implement commission decisions signed by the South Ossetian and Georgian sides.
