MOSCOW, July 30 (RIA Novosti) - Group MENATEP's shareholders welcome the efforts exerted by former Canadian Premier Jean Chretien towards settling tax and legal problems encountered by Yukos, as well as its former head Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Group MENATEP and the company's main shareholders, stated Group MENATEP Limited's executive director Tim Osbourne on Friday.

A source close to Yukos shareholders told RIA Novosti that Mr. Chretien "may soon act as an intermediate between the (Russian) authorities and the business."

The statement points out that MENATEP's shareholders have reasons to assume that Mr. Chretien realizes the pressing need of urgent settlement of the situation around Yukos.

"Group MENATEP fully backs the efforts exerted by Mr. Chretien, and will do its best to ensure his success," reads the statement.

Group MENATEP's shareholders emphasize that the company is open for any sound decisions, which would ensure maintaining Yukos and protecting rightful legal and financial interests of all the parties concerned.
