GEORGIA EASES VISA REGULATIONS WITH RUSSIA

TBILISI, July 29 (RIA Novosti) - Georgia has eased visa regulations for Russian nationals, the Georgian Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti on Thursday.

According to President Mikhail Saakashvili's order of July 22, relevant structures of the Georgian Foreign Ministry have started granting entry visas to Russians, RIA Novosti's interlocutor said.

In his words, 14-day Georgian visas are granted at the airports of Tbilisi and Batumi and at the Kazbegi-Verkhny Lars checkpoint.

Visa regulations between Russia and Georgia have been introduced in 1999. The Russian side explained this decision by the lack of control on the Georgian borders and the penetration of militants from the Pankisi Gorge (Georgia) to neighboring Chechnya.

The Russian Foreign Ministry already eased visa regulations with Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
