RUSSIAN SEAMEN LIKELY TO GET US ENTRANCE VISA EASIER

MOSCOW, July 27 (RIA Novosti) - Within two months the USA will consider the issue of facilitating visa regime for Russian ships' crews, said US Transport Minister Norman Mineta following the talks with Russia's Deputy Transport Minister Alexander Misharin.

The talks were held within the framework of the IV forum of the Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation members' transport ministers, which opened on the Indonesian island of Bali on Tuesday.

"Within two months the US governmental commission will develop specific procedures for settling this issue", Mr. Mineta was quoted as saying in the Russian Foreign Ministry's statement.

The issue of relieving the US visa regime for Russian ships' crews was raised on the initiative of the Russian delegation, the document points out. "This problem directly affects the time of goods delivery, and, hence, the competitiveness of Russian goods and freight forwarders", the Foreign Ministry's statement quotes Mr. Misharin as saying.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, during the bilateral talks the Russian deputy transport minister and the US transport minister, in particular, reached an agreement on study and use in Russia of the US experience in the area of designing and implementing road traffic safety systems.

Scheduled for July 28 are the Russian delegation's talks with the transport ministers of Indonesia and the Republic of Korea.

Alexander Misharin heads the Russian delegation to the IV forum of the Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation members' transport ministers. The forum's agenda includes a wide range of problems related to the sea, air, motor and railway transport, and the issues of counter-terrorism.
