COMMANDERS OF CIS BORDER TROOPS GATHER IN BATUMI

MOSCOW, July 6 (RIA Novosti) - The Council of Commanders of the CIS Border Troops will consider the promotion of border security in Batumi, Adzharian capital, on July 7-9, the Russian Federal Border Service reported.

Representatives of all the CIS countries, except Uzbekistan, will participate in the session. The Russian delegation is led by first deputy director of the Federal Security Service, head of the Border Service and chairman of the Council, Colonel-General Vladimir Pronichev.

The participants will discuss cooperation between the CIS border services, promotion of border security within the framework of the interstate program of joint anti-criminal measures and primary measures to combat drug trafficking across the CIS borders.

Moreover, they will consider the results of the recent joint special border operation in Central Asia, joint measures to prevent poaching and protect biological resources of the Caspian Sea, technical and economic aspects of the formation of a unified system of registration of third countries' citizens and stateless persons entering the Commonwealth, and the implementation of the 2003 budget expenses of the Council.

The participants will sum up the results of the international contest of veteran associations of border services on social and legal support of veterans, which was held in the last three years.
