TEHRAN, July 4 - RIA Novosti. According to official spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Hamid Reza Assefi, Russia and Iran have a lot of shared international interests.

"Talks between Secretary of Russia's Security Council Igor Ivanov and high-ranking Iranian state officials will involve various issues, including cooperation between Russia and Iran about information security, and fight against international terrorism and drug trafficking that threaten both Russia and Iran," Assefi told RIA Novosti.

"Russia and Iran have a lot of shared interests on the international stage," he said.

Secretary of Russia's Security Council Igor Ivanov is beginning his visit to Iran on Sunday. He will meet with Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Hasan Ruhani, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Naqi Kamal Kharazi, and Chairman of the Iranian Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majles) Haddad Adel.

Moscow and Tehran apparently have a lot of shared attitudes as to the post-Saddam Iraqi settlement, aggravating situation in Afghanistan in view of forthcoming simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for September, and fight against drug trafficking (the so-called Western Balkan Traffic of drugs from Afghanistan to Western Europe goes through Iran).
