YEREVAN, June 16 (RIA Novosti) - An OSCE mission has made one of its regular inspections of the Armenian-Azeri frontier on a stretch where the two countries' troops come in close contact, in the vicinity of the village Berkaber, Tavush Region, Armenia, and the village Mizamlu, Kazakh administrative district, Azerbaijan. The information has reached Novosti from Colonel Seiran Shahsuvaryan, press spokesman for Armenia's Defence Ministry.

Monitoring the frontier on the Armenian side were field aides of Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk, personal envoy of the acting OSCE president-Hungary's Imre Palatinus and Miroslav Vimetal of Czechia; and on the Azeri, Andrzej Kasprzyk and Kenneth Pickles of the UK, another of his field aides.

OSCE inspectors came into visual contact with both countries' Foreign and Defence ministerial officers, who were accompanying them to either side of the frontier.

Armenia has proposed to come over from radio contacts to meetings under the OSCE aegis. Mr. Kasprzyk was enthusiastic about the idea, and promised OSCE intervention in its favour, stressed Colonel Shahsuvaryan.

An Armenian officer died in a frontier skirmish last night-Lieutenant Samvel Vshtuntz, 22, platoon commander of the town Vanadzor. Osce inspectors were duly informed about the tragedy.

Mr. Kasprzyk will offer a detailed report about the inspection to OSCE co-chairmen, he vouched.
