BEIRUT, May 19 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian top is inviting Lebanon's President Emil Lahud for an official visit. Alexander Saltanov, Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister, now in Beirut, passed the invitation.

The visit agenda is expected to concern a wide range of global and regional issues of mutual interest-in particular, Russian-Lebanese contacts.

While in conference, Messrs. Lahud and Saltanov exchanged opinions on Mideastern developments, with focus on Palestine and Iraq. Regional progress is out of the question till those problems are settled-and the use of force by no means promotes settlement, stressed President Lahud. It was the global community who worked out UN Security Council resolutions, so they deserve to come as basis of Israeli-Palestinian conflict settlement.

As for Iraq, things there were going from bad to worse within the previous twelve months. The United Nations alone can bring that country peace and stability, said the President. He does not think it wise to involve Arab countries in Iraqi peacekeeping unless they come out under international supervision, or explicit goals are posed them and detailed blueprints made.
