UZBEK FOREIGN MINISTER IN UKRAINE

TASHKENT, May 10 (RIA Novosti) - Sadyk Safayev, Uzbekistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, is arriving in Kiev today on a two-day official visit. The event aims to step up all-round bilateral strategic cooperation, says Ilkhom Zakirov, his press secretary.

The visit schedule envisages negotiations with the host country's President Leonid Kuchma and parliament Speaker Vladimir Litvin.

The agenda includes the present state of bilateral relations, the international anti-terror cause, prospects of Uzbek-Ukrainian contacts within the United Nations, the OSCE, CIS and other international organizations, and teamwork with still other international leagues. The Parties will exchange opinions on Iraqi, Afghan and other crucial international issues.

Mr. Safayev will meet with Konstantin Grishchenko, his Ukrainian counterpart, at the negotiation table. The Parties intend to sum up their talks with a joint statement. The Kiev visit is also expected to bring a tripartite cooperation agreement of Ukraine's Institute of International Relations and the Shevchenko National University, and Uzbekistan's University of the World Economy and Diplomacy.

Uzbekistan and Ukraine have coincident or, at least, close stances on a number of essential global and regional problems-in particular, concerning cooperation within the Commonwealth of Independent States. As both countries see it, top priority here ought to belong to economic partnership as chief efficiency prerequisite.

Uzbekistan and Ukraine are close allies in OSCE activities to promote regional security. Their UNESCO delegations permanently offer support to each other's initiatives.
