GEORGIA HOLDS LARGEST MILITARY EXERCISES IN RECENT YEARS

POTI, May 2 (RIA Novosti) - The main stage of the Dioscuria-2004 military exercises, the largest ones in Georgia in the past twelve years, has been held in the Georgian port city of Poti.

This Sunday the Dioscuria missile ship, transferred to the Georgian Defense Ministry as a gift from the Greek government, has entered the water area of Poti.

Under the scenario of the exercises, the crew of the ship, on whose board commander of the Georgian navy, vice-admiral Zurab Iremadze is present, is to liberate hostages staying on board of a sea vessel.

Today the arrival of another two naval ships, which have undergone major repairs at a Greek shipyard, is expected from Greece.

Overall, the military exercises are involving two thousand servicemen of all armed services and arms, and also the units of the Interior Ministry, and special forces of the Georgian State Security Ministry.
