MOSCOW, April 27 (RIA Novosti) - Mobilization in Adzharia will not tell on the functioning of the Russian Batumi base, Vyacheslav Sedov, public relations officer of the Russian Defence Ministry, told RIA Novosti.
"The personnel of the 12th Russian Batumi military base is in the permanent disposition places. Russian servicemen do not interfere in the Georgian developments", Sedov said.
Adzharia is Georgia's autonomy. The conflict between its authorities and the central government of Georgia has of late been worsening. On Tuesday Aslan Abashidze, leader of Adzharia, declared mobilization of its citizens subject to military service. The goal of mobilization is to prevent the creation of illegal armed formations and unrest in Adzharia.
