TASHKENT, April 22 (RIA Novosti) - Uzbekistan assigns priority to the forthcoming summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO including Russia, China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan) in Tashkent, Uzbek Foreign Minister Sadyk Safayev said before his departure to Moscow to participate in the session of the Council of SCO foreign ministers.

"The government of Uzbekistan, presiding at the SCO in the first year of its full-fledged functioning, has launched measures to prepare and hold the summit," Mr. Safayev noted.

According to him, the main task of the Council's session in Moscow is "to discuss and fix the agenda of the Tashkent summit and documents to be signed by SCO leaders in Tashkent." SCO foreign ministers are to consider proposals on meetings between security council secretaries and economy ministers in Tashkent on July 3-4 and May 28, 2004 correspondingly. "In addition, we are to discuss the draft of the statement on the status of SCO observers and drafts of some juridical documents on the regional anti-terrorist structure," the Uzbek Foreign Minister said.
