TBILISI, April 17 (RIA Novosti) - The heads of law enforcement bodies of Georgia, South Ossetia (self-proclaimed republic on Georgian territory) and North Ossetia (republic within Russia) will meet in May in Tbilisi. This is said in a statement of co-chairmen of the Joint Supervision Commission (SKK) on the settlement of the Georgo-Ossetian conflict, signed yesterday evening after the sides' meeting in Tskhinvali (South Ossetia).

The document stresses that the session noted the importance of realization of the intergovernmental agreement between Georgia and Russia of December 23, 2000 on interaction in rehabilitation of economy in the area of the Georgo-Ossetian conflict and on the return of refugees to places of permanent residence.

It is also noted that the Georgian and Russian sides confirmed their intention to activate work on realizing the above mentioned agreement.

The statement emphasizes that resumption of work of the SKK, whose co-chairmen adhere to the Agreement on the principles of settlement of the Georgo-Ossetian conflict of June 24, 1992 is very important. Together with joint peacekeeping forces deployed in the conflict zone, this body is an efficient mechanism "to stabilize the situation and solve problems in the zone of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict." The Russian embassy in Georgia told the Novosti-Georgia new agency that the Georgian side at the SKK session was represented by the state minister for settlement of conflicts, Georgy Khaindrava, the Russian side, by the Russian foreign ministry's ambassador at large, Mikhail Mayorov, the South Ossetian side, by minister at large Boris Chochiyev, and the North Ossetian side, by Teimuraz Kusov, the state counselor of the North Ossetian president.

No SKK sessions have been held since November 2003, when the new Georgian leadership recalled its representative in the commission.
