In his televised message Alexy noted that the Easter festival is "the day of great triumph of life over death, of light over darkness".
"With all my heart I congratulate all believers within Russia and outside the boundaries of our Motherland on Easter-Day. Russia's genuine strengthening is impossible without revival of spiritual values historically shared by our people," the patriarch said.
"The Lord promises mercy and eternal life to those who are merciful to other people. Mercy to and concern for the weak and dispossessed should return to our life," noted the primate of the Russian Orthodox Church.
"Let nobody remain in grief on this day. May the Lord help us with dignity to bear all burdens and privations which accompany every one in their earthly life, and may the Lord give us strength and preserve our faith in the resurrected Christ," the Patriarch said in his address.
