YEREVAN, April 10 (RIA Novosti) - Artur Bagdasaryan, Chairman of Armenia's National Assembly, and Nikolai Borduyzha, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan), discussed in Yerevan on Saturday the main aspects of CSTO activities, an official from the Armenian parliament's public relations department told RIA Novosti.

Among other things, Nikolai Bordyuzha pointed out that the CSTO operates in three major areas: coordination of foreign policy activities, dealing with global security and other vital international issues, and coordination of member-states' contacts with the OSCE.

He pointed to war on terror and drug business as issues on top of the CSTO agenda.

In this context, the parties highlighted the need for establishing a relevant legal environment within the Commonwealth of Independent States as well as the importance of ratification of the basic conventions. This would allow the Organization to address issues more effectively.

On Saturday, the CSTO Secretary General finished his three-day visit to Armenia, in the course of which he met with Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, Secretary of the National Security Council and Defense Minister Serge Sarkisyan, Foreign Minister Vardanos Oskanyan, Director of the National Security Agency Karlos Petrosyan and Chief of the National Police Aik Arutyunyan.

The parties discussed various issues pertaining to the general situation in the region, key regional and international security problems, as well as prospects for establishing a system of collective security.
