MOSCOW, April 8, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Moscow hopes that the third meeting of six-way consultations on North Korea's nuclear programme will be held before the end of June, Alexander Yakovenko, an official Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman, told a news conference in RIA Novosti.

Taking part in the consultations are representatives of North Korea, South Korea, Japan, the US, Russia and China.

"The Russian side maintains very close contacts with all participants in six-way negotiations. The current task is to form a working group, which would draft proposals and plan the work of the third round of six-way consultations, which, as we see it, should be held before the end of June this year," the diplomat said.

"For our part we will exert every effort for the mechanism of six-way consultations to bring results," he said.

The second round of the regional negotiations, which began in August of last year, took place at the end of February in Beijing.
