BRITISH DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER SPEAKS UP FOR CONTINUATION OF DEMOCRATIC REFORMS IN RUSSIA

MOSCOW, APRIL 6. (RIA Novosti) -- State Minister of the Foreign Office Bill Rummel has spoken up for the continuation of democratic reforms in Russia.

A considerable progress in the situation in Russia over the last 14 years is noteworthy. It is essential that the reforms begun in the early 90s do not end, Rummel told the round table in Moscow on the new challenges and threats.

The British deputy foreign minister noted that Britain has concerns over the situation in Russia. Particularly, he spoke of the need of the free media for the development of a democratic society.

The British authorities are also concerned over the situation in Chechnya, where violations of human rights are present, he said.

Bill Rummel stressed that Britain is going to cooperate with Russia on matters of concern.
