"Another outbreak of blood-shedding clashes in Kosovo has once more demonstrated the depth of mankind's forgetfulness," says the ombudsman's statement which was received by RIA Novosti.
In Lukin's opinion, the developments in Kosovo up to 1999 was undoubtedly an evil.
"That evil must be stopped. However, the organisers and performers of those actions did not find anything better than to conclude an alliance, as a matter of fact, with some bandits against other bandits," the statement says.
"Today, our Western partners have to hastily refute their own five-year-old 'arguments.' But it is very difficult to do, taking into account that many of them have managed to get mixed up, as enthusiastically, in another story with a similar plot. Let us recall that the Western allies entered Iraq, as was declared, for enabling the Iraqi people to exercise their rights to 'human values'," pointed out the Russian human rights commissioner.
According to him, some lessons have been learned from Iraq and Afghanistan, but "the blood, death and sufferings of many people" were the price for these lessons. "Recall the inhuman terrorist act in Spain on March 11 after which some European capitals have at last deprived themselves of the 'pleasure' to divide fanatics, possessed with man-hating ideas, into 'good' 'freedom fighters' and 'bad' terrorists," says the statement.
"The price of freedom and human rights is very high. Our common task is not to connive at the inflation of these notions. It is in this that I see the main lesson of the Kosovo drama. And not only of this drama," concludes the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation.
