RUSSIAN WINS GOLDEN LEAGUE TOURNAMENT IN ABSOLUTE KARATE CATEGORY

THE HAGUE, MARCH 16 (RIA NOVOSTI) - Russian sportsman Andrei Potapov won the Golden League tournament in the absolute karate category. The 28th tournament is over in Rotterdam.

The press service of the Russian Karate Federation said that, except Georgy Khizhnyakov's follower Potapov, who has won in a prestigious category, three more Russians with bronze medals have been distinguished in the karate competition in The Netherlands. In the weight category up to 70 kilograms bronze went to Yevgeny Gurbo, to Alexander Gerunov in the weight category over 80 kilograms, and to Roman Tushdiev in up to 75 kilograms.

The participation of Russian karatekas in such a prestigious competition is an important stage in the preparation for the European championship, due in Moscow on May 7 through 9, 2004, said the press service of the Russian Karate Federation.
