VLADIMIR PUTIN LEADS RUSSIAN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS WITH 66.5 % OF VOTES

MOSCOW, 14 March, 2004. (RIA Novosti correspondent). -- Vladimir Putin leads Russian presidential elections with 66.5 % of votes, head of the Central Election Commission Alexander Veshnyakov said at the first press conference held after all polling stations in Russia closed doors at 21.00 Moscow time.

Nikolai Kharitonov is the runner-up with 14.7 % followed by Sergei Glazyev (5.1 %), Irina Khakamada (4.8 %), Oleg Malyshkin (3.1 %) and Sergei Mironov (0.9 %).

4.1 % of Russian voters cast their ballots against "all those listed".

The above results have been registered after processing 14.7 percent of voting protocols handed in by local election commissions.
