MOSCOW, January 28, 2004. (RIA Novosti correspondent Nikolai Makarov) - At its session scheduled for February 2nd the Central Election Commission is going to consider the issue of Vladimir Putin's presidential candidacy. This has been disclosed by head of the body Alexander Veshnyakov.
The group spearheading the president's second term campaign submitted lists of signatures in support his support on January 23rd. In this regard Veshnyakov pointed out that the law envisages that the Central Election Commission should verify the lists within a period of up to 10 days.
The shortlist of candidates for presidency will be known no sooner than February 8th after the lists of signatures have been checked, the official said. Today seven candidates are involved in the campaign trail, with two of them, Nikolai Kharitonov and Oleg Malyshkin, candidates of the KPRF and the LDPR respectively, already registered by the Central Election Commission.
