"Special attention will be paid to further expansion of trade and economic cooperation, including to determining ways to use more in full to this effect the potential of interregional and border ties," Kremlin sources said.
Kazakhstan is among Russia's ten main foreign trade partners (trade turnover in 2003 exceeded $5 billion, out of which up to 60% falls on border trade).
According to Kremlin sources, the heads of state will discuss issues of enhancing interaction in the sphere of fuel and energy complex, joint exploration of hydrocarbon resources of northern Caspian and in electric energy.
Military and technical cooperation will also be discussed, as well as perfection of the existing contractual-legal basis.
The heads of state will touch upon the course of negotiations on Russo-Kazakh border delimitation.
The future conversations will focus on enhancing integration efforts, continuing active interaction in the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Eurasian Economic Community, the Organization of the Collective Security Treaty, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the common economic space being formed.
The presidents will exchange opinions on urgent international and regional problems with stress on resolution of issues to strengthen stability and security in the Central Asian region, settlement of the legal status of the Caspian Sea, expansion of coordination of bilateral efforts to fight international terrorism and the drug threat.
