KAZAKHSTAN GETS 73,000 RUSSIAN TEXTBOOKS

ASTANA, JANUARY 6, 2004, /RIA-NOVOSTI CORRESPONDENT ALISHER NIYAZOV/ -- Russia has sent 73,000 textbooks to Kazakhstan free of charge, Sergei Zhuravlev, who serves as counsellor with the Russian Embassy, told RIA-NOVOSTI here today.

The textbook container arrived in Astana the other day; the textbooks cost about two million roubles. (One dollar costs 29.25 roubles - Ed.) In Zhuravlev's words, Kazakhstan received this consignment in line with the Russian Government's program for supporting compatriots abroad.

All textbooks will be distributed among Russian-language schools in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, with the libraries of some republican national-culture organizations receiving them, as well.
