The Russian Information Agency Novosti begins Hotline coverage for Wednesday, January 7, 2004.

RIA Novosti correspondents report:

MOSCOW. The Russian Orthodox Church celebrates Christmas. Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II will conduct a Christmas vesper service in the Church of Christ the Saviour.

MOSCOW. The Russian capital will host a sports holiday, Russian Christmas on Vorobyevy Gory. The opening ceremony will be attended by Moscow Vice-Mayor Valery Shantsev.

MOSCOW. The Brother Znamensky track and field arena will host Christmas Cup track and field competitions.

PARIS. The ballet troupe of the Bolshoi Theatre will start its tour on the stage of Grand Opera (January 7-24). The tour will start with the Swan Lake staged by Yuri Grigorovich and will also include ballets The Pharaoh's Daughter staged by French choreographer Pierre Lacotte and The Bright Stream by Shostakovich staged by Alexei Ratmansky.
