RUSSIAN KAMAZ TEAM IN SECOND PLACE IN PARIS-DAKAR RALLY

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, 5 January 2004. (RIA Novosti correspondent)-With the results of the fourth stage of Telefonica-Dakar-2004 rally in, the Russian KAMAZ-Master team are in second place in the overall standings.

The press service of the Kama Automotive Plant reports that KAMAZ driver Firdaous Kabirov only trails leader Gerardus De Rooy (DAF) by 13 seconds. Vladimir Chagin's team is in third place, 1 minute 37 seconds behind the leader.

Kabirov's team yesterday won the fourth stage, Tanger-Rashidiya. The Dutchman De Rooy came in 17 seconds later. Vladimir Chagin finished 1 min 38 sec behind the leader in his KAMAZ.

The 26th Paris-Dakat Rally started on January 1 in France, and will cover more than 11,000 kilometres through Spain, Morocco, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso and Senegal. It will finish on January 18 on the shore of the famous Pink Lake on the outskirts of Dakar.

The KAMAZ-Master team has won the off-road world rally championship on three occasions and the Paris-Dakar Rally four times.
