WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day it was reported that al-Qaeda terrorist group could be planning attacks a day before US presidential election in the states of New York, Texas and Virginia.
"My office is working with law enforcement officials and we are continuing to monitor the situation in close coordination with the Texas Department of Public Safety," Abbott stated in the release.
The governor advised Texans to go about their daily lives as usual, but also said they should "remain vigilant over the next several days and report any suspicious activity to state or local law enforcement."
Texas authorities will continue to do everything they can to ensure the safety and security of citizens, Abbott added.
Joint terrorist task forces have been alerted by US intelligence agencies of a potential al-Qaeda terrorist plot on the day before the presidential election set for November 8, the US corporate media reported on Friday.
