According to Johns Hopkins University, at least 189.9 million people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 so far, while the death toll from the virus has surpassed 4 million.
The United States is the worst-hit nation, confirming over 34 million coronavirus cases and a death toll of 608,881. India is the second-worst hit, with over 31 million COVID-19 infections and more than 413,000 deaths. Brazil rounds out the top three, with over 19.3 million cases and the second highest death toll in the world at 541,266 .

Thai civil aviation authority CAAT said it would suspend most domestic flights starting Wednesday, after the nation reported record numbers of COVID-19 cases for three straight days.

Flights to and from Bangkok and a dozen high-risk regions labeled as "dark red" will be halted indefinitely, until the epidemic situation improves, CAAT chief Suttipong Kongpool said.

Exemptions will be made for medical emergencies and vaccinated travelers going to resort islands designated by the Phuket Sandbox and Samui Plus tourism recovery programs.

The Southeast Asian country was hit by a third wave of coronavirus in April, driven by more transmissible Alpha and Delta variants. Recent weeks saw daily totals surpass 10,000 cases, with more than 100 people dying every day.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - South Korea's government sent a plane to its anti-piracy naval unit in the Gulf of Eden near Somalia to bring back home all personnel, many of which have contracted COVID-19, Yonhap News Agency reported.

A total of 68 service members out of 300 have contracted the virus and the number is expected to grow as more tests are being conducted in the following days.

The deployed plane is carrying 13 medical personal that will help with the assistance of those ill, and 148 troops who will be left in charge of sailing the naval unit's destroyer back to the country.

TOKYO (Sputnik) - Ten people involved in the Summer Olympics in Tokyo have tested positive for COVID-19, including two foreign athletes and one foreign journalist residing in the Olympic village, the Organising Committee said in a statement.

Earlier this week, Japanese media reported that a foreign Olympic delegation member living in the Olympic village had tested positive for the coronavirus.
