On Thursday, US President Donald Trump announced a US-mediated agreement on the normalisation of ties between Israel and the United Arab Emirates. The accord stipulates that Israel will halt its intentions to extend sovereignty over parts of the West Bank.

The landmark Israel-UAE agreement has drawn both praise and condemnation from across the globe since it was announced by US President Donald Trump on Thursday.

The United Nations, UK, France, as well as Egypt and Jordan - the two other Arab countries Israel has a peace agreement with - have welcomed the deal as a positive step towards peace in the Middle East.

The Palestinian Authority and Iran have strongly condemned the "dangerous" move, joined by Turkey who said "history will not forgive" the UAE for this step.

We believe this is an important element, as such plans were a key obstacle to resuming direct Palestinian-Israeli contacts", the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
