Mass protests against police brutality and racial discrimination have been ongoing in the US and other countries in the world since the death of George Floyd, an African-American man, in police custody in the US state of Minnesota on 25 May.

The Atlanta police officer who shot Rayshard Brooks dead has been terminated, while a second officer involved has been placed on administrative duty, Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos has revealed to CNN.

Meanwhile, protesters in Atlanta, Georgia have set fire to the Wendy's fast food restaurant where Brooks, an African-American man, was fatally shot by a police officer during his arrest on Friday night on the heels of weeks-long nationwide riots against police brutality and racial discrimination.

Protesters took to the streets in Atlanta the next day, demanding that police be held liable.

The Atlanta events have rekindled the flames after weeks of riots that have shaken the United States since May 25, when another African American man, George Floyd, was killed during arrest by a white police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Floyd's death at the hands of Minneapolis police sparked violent protests around the country which eventually spread to many parts of the world, decrying police brutality and racism.

A "Solidarity Alliance" protest against racism, violation of human rights and gender inequality is taking place in Berlin mirroring US nationwide Black Lives Matter protests.

According to a Sputnik correspondent, the rally united several groups, including those advocating for refugee rights and environmental issues. The protest was organized by Germany's Unteilbar movement.

Participants of the protest are expected to observe COVID-19 regulations, including social distancing.

Similar protests are due to take place in ten other German cities.

Moreover, about 50 people are taking part in a rally organized in support of Russian citizen Denis Kaznacheev detained in Germany on May 29 at the request of the US and suspected of cyber fraud and money laundering. The participants are mostly Kaznacheev's friends and colleagues. The rally proceeded peacefully with the detainee's supporters talking to each other and playing his favorite tracks.

Police officers did not interfere in the demonstration.

At least 23 police officers were lightly injured during Saturday protests in central London, Scotland Yard said in a statement on Sunday, adding that 113 people were detained over different offenses.

"A total of 113 arrests were made yesterday following demonstrations across central London. The arrests were made for a range of offences including breach of the peace, violent disorder, assault on officers, possession of an offensive weapon, possession of class A drugs and being drunk and disorderly … A total of 23 officers were injured as protesters threw items at police or targeted them with violence.
