Live Updates: Trudeau's Liberal Party Falls Short of 170 Districts Needed for Majority Government

On 21 October, Canada held its 43rd general election, with the voting taking place in 338 districts. The leading competitors were the ruling Liberal Party led by Justin Trudeau and Andrew Sheer's Conservative Party.

Polls opened at 11:00 GMT in the provinces of Labrador and Newfoundland, in eastern Canada, the first of the country's six time zones. Polls will be open in far western British Columbia until 02:00 GMT Tuesday, although the first results are expected at around 23:00 GMT. 

A recent poll by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation predicts the election will result in a minority government, with support for the two largest parties, the Conservatives and Liberals, below 33 percent.

The Liberal Party of Canada has won in 158 districts in the national election, with at least 170 having been required for a majority government, preliminary data from the Commissioner of Canada Elections shows.

With preliminary polling data from all 338 electoral districts processed, the Liberal Party has 33.6 percent of the votes, while the Conservative Party of Canada has 34.1 percent.

The Conservative Party has secured victory in 119 districts.

According to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Trudeau's party is projected to form a minority government.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party of Canada is ahead in the national elections and has secured victory in 120 districts, preliminary data from the Commissioner of Canada Elections shows.

The Liberal Party has 38.6 percent, while the Conservative Party of Canada is second with 30.6 percent of the votes, with preliminary data from 244 electoral districts having come in.Trudeau’s party is leading in 120 districts, while the Conservative Party has won in 91 districts.

A party needs to win in 170 out of 338 electoral districts in order to win in Canada’s national elections.

The Liberal Party of Canada is ahead in the national elections and has secured victory in 25 districts, data from the Commissioner of Canada Elections shows, with over 55 percent of polling data having been processed.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal party has 41.2 percent of the votes, while the Conservative Party of Canada is second with 29.7 percent of the votes.

The Conservative party has secured victory in 5 districts (a party needs to win in 170 districts in order to win in Canada’s national elections).

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s ruling Liberal Party of Canada is leading in the national elections, first results from the Commissioner of Canada Elections show.

The Liberal Party has 48 percent, while the Conservative Party of Canada has 32.2 percent, with about 9 percent of the votes counted. The New Democratic Party has 15.1 percent.

The Liberal Party is leading in 14 electoral districts, while the Conservatives are ahead in 9 districts. A party needs to win in 170 districts in order to secure victory in the elections.
