UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) - The so-called "small group" on Syria will hold consultations later this week at the United Nations German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said on Tuesday after meeting with his Saudi counterpart on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Both Germany and Saudi Arabia are part of the so-called small group, which also includes Egypt, France, Jordan, the United Kingdom and the United States.

"We discussed international politics issues, in particular, we discussed Syria, where we both agreed it is of utmost importance to avoid a humanitarian crisis. I am looking forward to continuing our discussion with the Syria small group later this week," Maas said.
