At least 26 people were killed as a result of a mass shooting during a service in a church in the US state of Texas on Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia shares the sorrow of those who lost their beloved in the dreadful massacre, and hopes for a speedy recovery of those who were wounded, Vladimir Putin said on Monday as cited by the Kremlin.

"Please accept my deepest condolences on occasion of the tragedy that occurred in Texas. It is difficult to imagine a more cruel and cynical crime than killing people at a church service," Vladimir Putin said.

Texas Massacre: Gunman Identified as Former US Air Force Member
On Sunday, a gunman opened fire in a church in the town of Sutherland Springs in Texas. The killings are said to have begun about 11:30 a.m., local time, at the First Baptist Church in the southeast of San Antonio, reported to the BBC. Texas Governor Greg Abbott said that the incident left 27 people, including children, while more people have been wounded. According to him, the suspected shooter was killed.

Meanwhile, The San Antonio branch of the FBI noted that no reason has yet been discovered for the gunman's motive.
