MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Valentina Matvienko, speaker of the Federation Council, the upper house of Russia's parliament said that Ex-US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton may attend the second Eurasian Women's Forum next September in St. Petersburg: "one of the most important tasks is to ensure high level of foreign participants' representation at the forum… I am in contact with Hillary Clinton, we invited her last year, she was unable to come… She pledged to come to our forum next year," Matvienko said.
The event needs the participation of women with different views and positions, those, who are shaping opinions and may share their inspiring success stories, Matvienko added.

During the presidential campaign in 2016, Clinton criticized the actions of Russia and President Vladimir Putin. She supports the statement of the US special services that Russia has intervened in the US presidential elections. However, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov called them "absolutely unsubstantiated."

The forum will take place on September 20-21, 2018, the parliamentary speaker specified.
The first Eurasian Women's Forum was held on September 24-25, 2015 in St. Petersburg. The event gathered state officials, representatives of the business community, science, as well as prominent leaders of the women's movement from across the world. Among the main topics of the forum were the issues of social security, sustainable development, international cooperation, as well as the expansion of women's participation in politics, economy and other areas.
