Around 4,000 people took part in a protest against a far-right anti-immigration demonstration in the Canadian city of Vancouver, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Thousands of counter-protesters arrived in the Vancouver City Hall area on Saturday after plans to hold the far-right rally against Islam and Canada's immigration policies had began circulating on social media earlier this week, not long after a deadly nationalist rally in US city of Charlottesville, Virginia, the CBC broadcaster reported.

The rival demonstrations ended without violence with police escorting several far-right protesters away from the crowd, according to the CBC.

Last week, white nationalists held a "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, to protest authorities' plans to remove a monument of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee from a city park. The rally subsequently led to clashes with left wing counter-protesters and culminated in a car-ramming attack that killed one person and injured 19 others.
