At Least 2 Killed, 1 Injured in PKK Attack in Turkey's Northeast

At least one Turkish soldier and one civilian have been killed, with one more soldier wounded in an attack on Turkish security forces carried out by the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) in northeastern Trabzon province, local media reported Friday, citing the provincial governor's office.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the Daily Sabah media outlet, all three victims were taken to the Karadeniz Technical University's Medical Faculty Hospital, but two of them, a soldier and a civilian teenage boy, died from their injuries.

The media outlet added that the 15-year-old teenager was killed when trying to report that PKK members were robbing a house in the area to officials.

The conflict between Turkey and Kurdish militant groups seeking independence reignited in July 2015, leading to frequent acts of terror by the PKK and regular anti-PKK operations by the Turkish government both in the country and in the territories of the neighboring Syria and Iraq inhabited by Kurds. The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization in Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
