President Donald Trump must ensure no one in his administration interferes with the Global Research Program Climate Science Special Report before releasing it to the public, US Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts said in a letter to Trump on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Markey said he has already seen troubling incidents of the Trump administration engaging in potential scientific interference or suppression since the transition period after the 2016 presidential election.

"As your administration reviews the draft [report], I urge you to ensure that there is no interference with any science or any scientific conclusions included in the report as it is finalized," Markey stated. "We must ensure that our federal agencies do not stifle the science of climate change or the scientists who are working on it."

Markey reminded Trump that the Office of Science and Technology Policy is required to complete a scientific assessment of the effects of climate change for Congress no less than every four years according to a law signed by President George H.W. Bush in 1990.

The New York Times reported earlier this week that scientists from 13 agencies had sent a draft of a climate change report, which goes against Trump's skeptical policy on global warming.
