"It is evident that there is a certain split in the world. The Western countries are trying to enforce own rules of the game in the information sphere to other countries. They strive for reservation of the rule of force in it and take steps to create legal grounds for potential use of force. This position could be proved by NATO's recognition of an information sphere as a new operational domain," Patrushev, who heads the Russian delegation at the BRICS member states' national security high representatives' meeting undergoing in Beijing, said.
At the same time the BRICS member states have quite a different position focusing on prohibition of the use of force in the cyberspace and on strengthening countries' sovereignty, the Russian official added.
In July 2016, NATO recognized cyberspace as a new operational domain, in addition to land, air and sea during the alliance's summit in the Polish capital of Warsaw.
