ATHENS (Sputnik) — Skourletis said that the decision on the establishment of a permanent joint committee for the exchange of experience, technology and information for joint coordination in all these areas was made.

"Cooperation on all these issues between us is not new, it continues for a few years, but today we made a significant step to give it a boost."

He added that the meeting was held during the cross-cultural year between Greece and Russia, stressing that the year proved that the countries had historically good ties.

Puchkov emphasized that Greece and Russia faced similar problems related to prevention and elimination of emergency situations, calling for joining countries' efforts.

"We are ready to share our experience on all the issues that are interesting for the Greek side, and we are always ready to help our Greek partners in case of emergencies," Puchkov was quoted as saying by the Russian Ministry for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters (EMERCOM) website.

Puchkov added that Russian-Greek cooperation would further implementation of projects, allowing to introduce new approaches in the sphere of risk management and disaster reduction, as well as to enhance the quality of aid.

Within the framework of the partnership relations between the two nations, the Russian Emergencies Ministry had repeatedly sent its firefighters to Greece as forest and brush fires are common during Greece's hot, dry summers.
