UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson hopes that the new US administration will cooperate with the UN.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United Nations (UN) hopes for close cooperation with the administration of President-elect Donald Trump in various areas, including on refugees and climate change, UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson told Sputnik.

"Well we just hope that we will have a close and good cooperation with the new leadership in the United States," Eliasson said. "That goes for many areas, from migration of refugees to climate change."

Republican Trump secured a victory in the US presidential election on November 8 with 290 electoral votes against his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton's 232. Trump's inauguration will be held on January 20, 2017.
