MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Hillary Clinton is likely to pursue current US policy toward the United Kingdom building “reasonably friendly" bilateral relationship, Lord Alfred Dubs, a member of the EU External Affairs’ Sub-Committee in the UK House of Lords, told Sputnik.

“I believe she will be reasonably friendly to Britain. I do not think there will be many change if she wins. I think she is quite sympathetic to the United Kingdom. I think she will be reasonably friendly,” Lord Dubs said.

Both candidates for the presidency during their election campaigns raised the subject of UK-US ties and the Britons' decision to leave the European Union taken at the nationwide referendum.

While Donald  Trump has repeatedly praised Britain’s decision in June to leave the European Union, calling it a "great victory" and seeing it as a historic choice of people against "global elites" and mainstream policies, particularly on immigration, Clinton tried to withhold Britons from voting for Brexit, and emphasized repeatedly that Europe needs to remain united.

Hillary Clinton could boost US military involvement in Syria, opting for a military solution to the crisis, if elected president of the United States, according to Dubs.

Democratic presidential nominee Clinton on different occasions during her election campaign pledged to increase US influence in the Middle Eastern region, create safe zones inside Syria, increase pressure on Syrian President Bashar Assad and enhance support of the armed opposition in the country.

“There might be changes if Clinton wins. She might consider stepping up US involvement in Syria,” Lord Dubs said answering whether Clinton's election could lead to the escalation of the Syrian crisis.

He characterized the developments in Syria as “alarming and very dangerous” and stressed that military solution to the crisis should be avoided at all cost.

”I hope that if Clinton wins the election, she will think really hard about the implications of using force,” Dubs pointed out.

According to Clinton’s campaign website, in order to maintain the US military posture, provide national security and country's influence abroad, the US army could be potentially involved in deterring Iran's nuclear aspirations, defeating the Daesh, countering China's cybersecurity threat and containing Russian "aggression."

The US presidential election is being held on November 8 with Clinton and Trump being two major contenders for the presidency.
