Cairo Sees Egypt's Role in Settling Syria Crisis Valued by US - Egyptian FM

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that United States assessed the important role of Cairo in the efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis and invited Egypt to attend the international ministerial meeting on the matter in the Swiss city of Lausanne.

LAUSANNE (Switzerland) (Sputnik) – The United States assessed the important role of Cairo in the efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis and invited Egypt to attend the international ministerial meeting on the matter in the Swiss city of Lausanne, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry told Sputnik on Saturday.

"[We] received invitation from the US State Secretary John Kerry… We assume that the US finally assessed the importance of Egypt in Syria crisis settlement and importance of Cairo participation in this meeting," Shoukry said.

On October 14, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov confirmed the importance of Egypt’s participation in the international meeting on Syrian problem.

Diplomats from Russia, the United States, Turkey and some Middle East countries are meeting in Lausanne on Saturday to discuss the situation in war-torn Syria, hoping to find a solution to the five-year-long crisis.
