"Mr. President, you are certainly aware of these unpunished cases and not pursued killings in the country. And the crimes remain unpunished," Manigault told Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto on Friday, as quoted by La Nacion, asking to ensure "the physical integrity and freedom of the press in Mexico."

Pena Nieto acknowledged the murder of journalists in his country.

"I am aware that despite progress in recent years, there are still crimes against journalists that we must solve," the Mexican president said.

In the past 16 years, at least 115 media workers have reportedly been killed in Mexico, while 20 have gone missing.
