"The main purposes of the joint regional air defense system are organization and performance of military duties on air defense alert in the Caucasus region of collective security; maintaining of command and control system, weapons and military equipment of the joint regional air defense system on ongoing standby," an explanatory note to the draft law read.
The draft law specifies that the agreement, signed in Moscow on December 23, 2015, has been concluded for the term of five years, with the possibility of an automatic prolongation by 5-years periods.
Russian Deputy Defense Minister Nikolay Pankov was appointed the official representative of the president in the State Duma for the ratification procedure.
The National Assembly of Armenia ratified the agreement on June 30.
