Issues Remain for Russia, US to Reach Compromise Concerning Syria

Russia and the United States have not yet reached a compromise on some issues concerning Syria and are working to eliminate uncoordinated moments in a final document, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Thursday.

MOSCOW — Earlier in the day, The Washington Post newspaper reported that Washington issued a document with final proposals to Russia on cooperation on the Syria issue and is awaiting a response from Moscow in the coming days.

"These reports are not totally correct… They really talk about a certain document, President [Vladimir Putin] has mentioned it. However, this document has not yet been finalized, as there are still some contentious issues remaining," Peskov said.

According to Peskov, Syrian settlement can only be discussed in a format of a compromise.

"And work continues to reach this compromise, as a compromise has not yet been reached on an insignificant number of outstanding issues," the spokesman said.
