APEC Higher Education Conference to Take Place at Russia Eastern Economic Forum

The fifth Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Strategy of Education Development higher education conference will take place in Russia's Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) during the 2016 Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok in early September, FEFU said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The 2016 Eastern Economic Forum will be held in Vladivostok on September 2-3.

"The fifth APEC conference on higher education, the Strategy of Education Development in APEC, will take place in the Far Eastern Federal University on September 1-3, 2016, as part of the second Eastern Economic Forum. It is being organized by the Russian Education and Science Ministry, the APEC Human Resource Development Working Group and the FEFU," the university said in a statement.

Delegations from Brunei, Vietnam, Indonesia, Canada, China, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Russia, Thailand and other APEC member states are set to take part in the conference, according to the statement.

Conference organizers expect to create a common vision on the future of education within APEC, as well as looking into prospects of investing in education and hearing all members' proposals for an education development strategy, the statement added.

Participants will also discuss way to increase student, researcher and education providers' mobility across the region, as well as preparing an agenda for the upcoming APEC educational ministerial meeting due to take place in October in Peru.

The 2015 Eastern Economic Forum was attended by representatives from 32 countries and resulted in 109 agreements worth 1.8 trillion rubles ($28 billion).
