MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi condemned the West for taking a critical stance on the execution of a number of terrorists, calling it interference in Iran's internal affairs.
Iran executed at least 20 people this week for purported terrorism-related offenses in a move that triggered condemnation from UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini and human rights groups.
"While Iran is itself victim of terrorism, it will do its best to maintain the safety of its citizens," Qassemi said as quoted in the Ministry's press release on Saturday.
The spokesman urged Western officials to refrain from double standards in fighting terrorism.
