MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, CAS rejected the Russian appeal upholding the IAAF's ban on Russian athletes participating in the 2016 Rio Olympics. Darya Klishina, who trains outside of the country, is the only Russian athlete who was permitted by the IAAF to compete as a neutral participant.
"In view of the urgency of the matter, the CAS Panel has issued only its decision, which is unanimous, without the grounds. The full Arbitral Award, including the grounds for the Panel’s decision, will be issued as soon as possible," the CAS statement reads.
The chances of Russian athletes participating in the Games were dealt a further blow on Monday with the release of a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) report, in which Russia is accused of overseeing a doping cover-up.
