The attack occurred on Thursday night during the Bastille Day celebrations, making it the worst terrorist attack in Nice's history.
Political leaders around the world condemned the attack and expressed their condolences to French President Francois Hollande. The international community reacted to the attack in a similar manner with some countries undertaking a number of measures to enhance the security of their citizens abroad.
Germany
Moreover, the document says that "passengers who travel with the Thalys [railway company] from Paris to Germany must undergo airport-like security checks. Travelers are urged to follow the instructions of the French security authorities, be cautious while moving across the country, carry identification with them (ID card, passport) and keep themselves informed about the development of the situation through media as well as ‘travel and security' regulations."
The UK
The United Kingdom is deeply concerned over the attack in Nice and is in touch with local authorities regarding the situation, a Foreign Office spokesperson told Sputnik on Friday.
"We are deeply concerned about reports on the incident in Nice and are in touch with the local authorities to seek more information. Our thoughts are with those affected and we stand by to help any British nationals," the spokesperson said.
The attack has raised doubts among UK residents whether it is safe to go for holidays and what to do if they find themselves in a situation similar to that in Nice. The recent developments have even caused debate about terror specific travel insurance as terrorism is often being excluded by insurers from the list of covered incidents.
Earlier, the British government has also issued a travel guide for Brits travelling to Europe although the move is not actually related to the developments in Nice and was made before the attack took place.
Russia
Following the tragedy, Rosturism recommended Russian citizens residing or spending their holidays in France to avoid crowded places.
"Rosturizm recommends Russian citizens on the territory of the country to take into account the following safety measures: demonstrate increased vigilance, not leave the place of their residence without absolute necessity, avoid crowded places and follow the instructions of the local authorities."
United States
The attack in Nice also caused nervousness among the US authorities, especially taking into account the recent terrorist attack at an Orlando night club, which resulted in 49 deaths and over 50 injured. The message issued on the website of the US Embassy in France right after the attack called US citizens to "contact family members and loved ones to notify them that you are safe, avoid the area, to monitor local press for updates, and to exercise caution if you are in the vicinity".
Another statement issued on the official website of the US Department urged US tourists in France to "be aware of local events; follow the instructions of local authorities; monitor local media for further developments; and, take the appropriate steps to increase your personal security."
The website also provides tourists with phone numbers and information about where they can receive help in case of an emergency.
