The Obama administration would not confirm reports that a Chechen national was behind the deadly attack on the Istanbul Ataturk International Airport in Turkey, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said in a briefing on Friday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul has previously stated that Chechen man Akhmed Chatayev masterminded the suicide bombing attack on the airport that killed more than 40 people on Tuesday.

"I’ve seen some of these reports. I’m not in the position to confirm them at this point," Earnest stated when asked about the Chechen extremist’s involvement. "This is a Turkish-led investigation."

Turkish media reported on Friday that two of the three suicide bombers were beleived to have Russian passports.
