US Department of Defense said on Saturday that it had warned Russia before the latter allegedly carried out airstrikes the Syrian opposition.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier this week, US media reported citing an anonymous official that Russia had allegedly hit the positions of the Syrian opposition forces, which are supported by Washington.

"Regarding safety, department officials conveyed that Russia’s continued strikes at At-Tanf, even after U.S. attempts to inform Russian forces through proper channels of on-going coalition air support to the counter-ISIL [Islamic State] forces, created safety concerns for U.S. and coalition forces," Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook said.
